Division and Occupation of Germany
Originally there was tension built between the Soviet Union and the United States with the institution of doctrines and blockades. Berlin became a major point of tension during the Cold War, Germany was at the center of it all. There were also many conferences that were held in German such as the Yalta and Potsdam conference, both in 1945.
Berlin Wall
The Soviet Union built the Berlin Wall, separating the east/communists and the west/capitalists. The wall was built to essentially block out the rest of the world, and stood as the center point of the cold war. When the Soviets constructed the wall it infuriated countries on the other side.
Iron Curtain
The iron curtain was a metaphorical barrier between the communists and the capitalists. The idea of an iron curtain was created when World War 2 was drawing to a conclusion, when the Soviets took most of eastern Europe's countries from Nazi control they implemented a communist government that they oversaw. Overall the Iron Curtain symbolizes the fight between communism and capitalism.
